The Marrakech Mechoui Break specializes in serving Moroccan lamb cooked in these magical authentic underground ovens made of bricks and local earth. Every day dozens of whole lambs are brought fresh from the Ghmat valley, drained, and prepared to be taken to our earthen ovens heated with wood where they steam and roast for about 2h30 mn. A real feast for meat lovers Moroccan way!

Moroccan Mechoui: A Royal Meal

In the beginning, the Moroccan Mechoui was a Royal meal offered to special guests during friendly, family, and important receptions. Also served by Moroccan noble and rich families, in general, to welcome notable visits, during weddings, special events and, celebrations.

Throughout history and since its foundation in the 11th century, Marrakech was known for the Mechoui specialty. Caravan traders & locals come to feast after a happy market day bartering and shopping.

Our Mechoui Break in Marrakech comes to offer such heritage to both locals and visitors in a concept preserving the authenticity and introducing other elements to make it richer and friendly for the different party and family tastes.

Unbelievably good lamb. They cook whole lambs in a pit under the restaurant (sounds like a joke but it’s true!) and haul them up when they finish the last one.
The lamb is incredibly succulent and tasty served with just bread and some cumin and salt to sprinkle over it.

The staff cooks​ a whole lamb deep underground and the results are tender and delicious. We were fortunate to be there as they pulled a fresh piece from the “oven”. You buy it by the half kg and staff cut and measure it using old school. “

What an experience. We came here to see the lamb being pulled out of the pit and then had the most spectacular lamb ever! The plain roasted stuff you just season with some cumin and salt and it is out of this world. They also have the lamb tagine which is an earthen pot that has been sitting in the ashes and slow cooking for many hours in a sauce. It is heavenly. Do not go to Marrakech and miss this place. It was a highlight.”
